SPECIALIZE!) TUTOR training
begins soon for volunteers who are
willing to work with children hav-
ing reading difficulties.

The North Vancouver School
District's tutoring program trains
volunteers to work with children
on a one-to-one basis during the
school day.

Tutors are desperately needed.
Interviews are now underway and
run to Sept. 23. Specialized train-
ing begins Tuesday, Sept. 27.

The Volunteer Tutoring Pro-
gram gives one-to-one support for
siudents with mild to severe pro-
blems in learning language arts
skills.

The program recruits and
carefully selects volunteers to
become tutors. Upon completion
of a comprehensive training pro-
gram, the volunteers are then plac-
ed to tutor one child for one-hour
per day, twice a week, for a full
school year. Volunteers can be
trained in multisensory reading
methods; language development;
whole language reading method;
reading, spelling and writing
strategies.

Each year over 100 volunteers
donate over 5,000 hours to work
directly with children. If you
