Gardens need watering PAGE 19 13 - Beidor June 26, 1987 - North Shore News Parade, ethnic events featured at Folkfest NORTH VANCOUVER’S Folkfest ’87 kicks off this weekend with flair as a variety of bands and ethnic dancers bring Centennial Theatre alive with exotic flavor. Running June 27 to 30, the event has something for everyone — music, dancers, window displays, crafts and a food fair. All of the Folkfest events are free. Folkfest chairman and North Vancouver City Ald. Stella Jo Dean explained that the free ad- mission programs contribute to in- ternational understanding as they provide an opportunity to easily appreciate the cultures of different lands. Folkfest events open with a parade of decorated cars, floats, bands and, of course, majorettes. Rain or shine, the parade is slated to leave Victoria Park at 10:30 a.m. Saturday and moves up Lonsdale to the Rec Centre. June 27 evening performances will offer a touch of the olde Scotland when Nann_ Wilson’s Scottish dance troupe jigs up a storm, Tiganeasca International Folk Dancers and the Act I, Scene I theatre company’s show. Laughter is the order of the evening when Act I, Scene I puts on the classic Alan Ayckbourn comedy Between Mouthfuls. Ethnic, traditional and contem- porary dance is lined up for Sun- day, June 28; guitar player David Cooper will provide a musical change from the dancing. The pace takes a turn to the musical Monday, June 29, as the North Vancouver Youth Band, the North Shore Chamber Music Society and the Weavers Square Dance Club present an evening of entertainment in the tradition of the Folkfest.
