Permanents are not forever

ONE OF the most confusing areas
of haircare for the average client
is that of permanent waving.

People regard perming their hair
as a major step, and therefore
become unnecessarily nervous
about it.

Probably the word ‘permanent’
makes people nervous.

Once you make it past the
phrasing, everything else is easy.
The first thing to ask yourself
when contemplating a perm, is
what kind of effect are you trying
to achieve? Do you just want a few
soft waves to add body to thin or
very straight hair, or are you after
a dramatic change with lots of
vibrant curls?

Your hairstylist can achieve
these two very different looks just
by using different sizes and
amounis of perm rods or rollers.
For a very curly effect, the stylist
would use many small perm rods,
and wrap the hair very tightly. For
a softer wave fewer large rollers
are used.

Perming only part of the hair is
also a very effective way to create
a great new look. For example, if
you want volume and curl on top
but like the back straight, a few
perm rods can be placed just at the
top of your head.
