Explosion a mystery

AN EXPLOSION which
rattled windows of nearby
homes, waking residents, is
still a mystery to North
Vancouver District fire
personnel who were called
to Fromme Road
Elementary School at 1:43
a.m. Tuesday.

The fire department was
informed of the blast by the
RCMP but when a crew

it could find no evidence of
anything unusual.

The school security guard
and witnesses said they
heard a loud explosion and a
neighbor reported being
woken by windows rattling
as a result of the blast.

However, a fire depart-
ment spokesman told the
News: “Nothing could be

Would-be thief used hammer

A WOULD-BE thief used a
hammer to smash the glass
storefront window of Kris’s
Watch Shop at 1518 Lon-
sdale Avenue in North Van
early Tuesday morning.

But the shattering glass

triggered a silent alarm and
RCMP officers were there
before the man had even
entered the store. Police
found he still had the
hammer concealed on him.
