In North Vancouver Cily, long-time incumbent Mayor Jack Loucks, who has been in office for seven terms, six of which he RMT @EACHIN has taken by acclamation, will be challenged by outspoken North Vancouver City Coun. Rod Clark in the upcoming Nov, 29 municipal elections. In North Vancouver District, Mayor Murray Dykeman has con- firmed that he will seck a second term as mayor. He will be challenged by current North Vancouver District Coun, Paul Turner, who has opposed Dykeman on numerous municipal issues, Issues high on Dykeman’s list of priorities include: ® maintaining current municipal services without increasing taxes; @ developing balanced = recre- ational needs; © maintaining and increasing the security of municipal neighbor- hoods, Turner, who has served one term on district council, said the district needs ‘strong and proper’’ leadership. Turner said the district's plan to sell off its remaining land bank over the next 15 years will be high on his priority list. “I've knocked on a fot of doors in the fast three years. People tell me they don’t want the land sold. “Yet the pressure to develop will be enormous, and without strong leadership that’s exaetly what will happen,"’ said Turner, He said he first decided tw run for district council over the previous council's plan to use portions of undedicated land ad- jacent to Lynn Canyon Park for housing development. Clark declined to comment on his cam- paign until then. West Vancouver District Mayor Mark Sager said Tuesday that he intends to seek a second term as mayor, “T've attempted to do the best job f can. [t's been a challenge. It's a great community to serve,” Sager said of his first term. To press time Tuesday, mayoral chailenger had papers in West Vancouver.
