June Mattin Contributing Columnist SO much stress! Too many distractions! Much too much to do cach day. Not enough hours in the day to accomplish all that needs to be done. Traffic — no park- ing spaces — noisy — busy, busy, busy! Does any of that sound familiar? To many people these days, it does. Their lives seem filled with “things to do” —~ people to visit, work to complete, shop- ping to finish, meals to make, chores to accomplish, errands to run. _ People speak quickly, eat their meals quickly, walk quickly, breathe quickly. How often each day do you notice the flowers that are poking their heads into view, the birds that are beginning to whis- de bright melodies, the laughter of the children at play, the spider weaving its intricate web? Or, are you rushing through cach moment of each day ... until you col- lapse in bed, exhausted? “I want some peace!” some shout. And yet, we seldom pause long enough to experience any peace — we seldom taste Peace the food we are eating, seldom relax so that our shoulders aren’t scrunched up in tension, seldom listen to the breath we breathe, seldom “see” with our eves or “hear” with our ears. It is seldom that we experience peace that comes when we allow ourselves to be embraced by the Holy One ... when we open ourselves to receiving God’s uncondi- tional love ... when we are “still” and “know that God is God.” ft only takes a moment to receive God’s precious peace ... to receive that inner strength that helps us cope with the busy- ness of life ... to accept the Love that is there for us in Jesus Christ ... to be hum- bled by the gift of life given us by the great Giver of all life. Ic only takes a moment. Are you willing to give vourself that gift of time? Are you willing to receive that gift of unconditional love? Are you willing to accept God’s gracious gift of peace in your soul? If you are not yet willing, but are “will- ing to be willing,” that is all thar is needed — a “willingness to be willing.” So, if you are willing to be willing to receive that “peace that passes all under- Sunday Celebration March 19, 2000 Two services at 9:00 & 11:00 a.m. Pastor Owen Scott will be speaking Topic: “The Moment of Truth’ (Full children’s program offered in both services) Lynn Valley Full Gospel Church, NEO E. 29th St. North Vancouver, B.C. Deborah Laing ~ Ross White. Sunday School 9:30 Morning Worship 10:45 (Oh yes, child care is always provided on Sunday mornings) inte your being standing,” take a moment right now and close your eyes for a moment — take a deep, deep, breath — slowly breathe in, and out, inviting God into your life. As you breathe in, you might say some- thing like “God, I receive vour peace.” As you exhale, you might say soniething like “{ release all thar causes my body, mind, spirit to be uneasy.” As you do this, receive God’s gift of peace within your heart, within your body, within your mind — easing the tensions, relieving the pain, quietening the dis-ease within your soul. And, when you find your- self more at peace, give thanks. Give thanks privately — and give thanks corporately, with others. This weekend, why not find a faith com- munity near you where you can join with others who gather together to give thanks to the One who walks with them each day of their lives ... strengthening, encourag- ing, and loving them. May the “peace that passes all under- standing” be yours this day and each day of yout life. — Reverend Dr. June Maffin is the Rector at St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church in North Vancouver .
