Minnie’s father started farming near Switt Current, Saskatchewan, where their tirst Winter was so cold that her mother placed baby Minnie ina box which she hung from the ceiling to keep her away from the snow that blew through the cracks in the walls of their wooden cabin. The children went to school in Ohioville, in the summers only, since the owo- mile walk from their home was impassible during the winter months.
