During that time, she’s witnessed a revolution in bisthing philosophy. “Now you really listen to what the families want and make the experience, as much as you can, what they want it to be.” she told the News four days before retirement. In Tindale’s early days at Lions Gate, fathers still wait- ed outside, bitirig their nails. while their wives gave birth. Later, fathers waited by their wives’ side when their children: were born. Today, Tindale sees children, grand- parents’ and friends involved “whatever the mother warts. ~ “It’s been really fun to see it,’ said. Tindale also supports the contre- versial practice of sending new moth- ers home with their babies much earli- er. Having a baby is a natural, normal experience for many mothers, she said, and with home support they may not need to be in the hospital several days. Tindale estimates she's been involved with a whopping 42,000 births since she began her Lions Gate career. In recent years, she’s begun to deliver the babies of women she deliv- ered years ago. “It’s a good place to work,” Tindale said of Lions Gate Hospital. “A real sense of being part of a community." Although she's through with nurs- ing, she expects to perform volunteer work at breast feeding clinics in the future. “I like the contact with mothers and families. I've got a great interest in helping moms breast feed. That's been nty real love." she said. In the immediate future, she pians to pursue other interests including walking, swimming, reading, garden- ing. interior decorating, and travel- ling. “Just the thought of having the whole. summer off is fabulous,” ‘Tindale said.
