Info: 983-9488, sO , A REPORT recently released by B.C. Transit states that improving bus service —— as opposed to SeaBus or SkyTrain service — is the best way to attract more people to transit and move them from the North Shore to the downtown core: The report, North Shore Transit Options, was commissioned in concert with studies examining the Lions Gate Crossing project. It said buses could move more people tv downtown Vancouver quicker, and more cost-effectively, than by rail or ferry. By providing better queue-jumpers to bypass line-ups aad bus-only lanes, transit would hecome a quicker mode of transportation and therefore, more attractive to the commuter, Provincial, regional and municipal politicians are eager to move commuters out of their cars and into mass transit in an effort te reduce traffic and air pollution. Opponents of the concept believe that it is better to get commuters out of their cars, but by way of rail or ferry transit. Is expanded bus service the best way to improve transit? Norma McKinstry North Vancouver If buses had right-of- way over the bridges, I think more people would take the bus and traffic would tlow.a lit- tle faster. Phil Johnson North Vancouver They have to plan for the transit problem for the long-term = as opposed to economics. I think North Vancouver and Vancouver will probably grow dramati- cally in the next 10 Kurt Hilger . North Vancouver Buses are fine with me — I'm for it. | would like them to be non-pol- luting, hydrogen-burn- ing buses. Linda Pilgrim North Vancouver I don’t, think it’s the traffic congestion that’s the problem; it’s the fre- quency of bus trips per hour.
