Woy Netcaife FOR THE past 10 days, my sister Pat Johnston and I were fortunate to be part of a group of CKNW listeners sailing the Mexican Riviera on board Princess Cruise’s very compact Golden Princess. The Golden Princess is 28,000 tons and carries some 800 passun- gers. We flew from Vancouver to Los Angeles where — surprise! sur- prise! — it was raining and cold and, of all times, [ had come down with a very bad cold. We boarded the Golden Princess in San Pedro about threc that afternoon, and by that time, the sun had come out. But it was still very cool with a chilly wind. _ We sailed off into the blue chap- _ py waters at 5 p.m, and after a quick change of clothes, | hosted all ~ of our hardy 60 travellers at a pri- vate cocktail party at 5:30. And | must say that bar manager Ian Donnelly was very efficient and OCKTAILS s down the friendly as was Princess’ Liaison Capt, Mike Carr who was travel- ling in civies with his pretty wile, Angela. Their home is in England but they‘ll be sailing most of the year on the P&O lines, It was only a short hour or se after the reception when thought that T wasa't going to live atall! We came back to our roo and that's when fT realized how much the (oor and walls were moving and t lett dreadfully i! f was horribly, horri- bly seasick! Thank goodness for my dear sis- ter or I'd still be crawling around in the bathroom! She called the doc- tor. Thad a shot and 1 got better! | was like ¢ zombie for the first diy but after that] wasn't bothered one wit for the rest of the trip. Interestingly, the trip to the dac- tor’s office is a standard $25 tee if you go during his office hours — § to 10 in the morning, or 5 to 6. at night. The key here is to only get sea- sick between those hours. Otherwise, the office visit is $50, the shot that the nurse gives you ix $8 and the pills for seasickness are $5 for a total of $63! It seems a bit high but that night | would have paid $163 dollars! ... What a great group we had! Eager, enthusiastic, energetic. curi- ous, lively, hungry and very talent- ed, especiilly Ross and Linda Lochhead, Neil and Donna Glover and Jim and Barbara Armstrong. The creative talents of this sixsome were put to the test on our final night when they were onstage enter- taining the packed audience as Michael Jackson and the Temptations! Oooo they were goad! The entertainment scoop they’ve passed on to me was that they flew home on Sunday to Vancouver with actor Stacy Keach and his family.
