can Board of Physical Med-
icine and Rehabilition.

Dr. David Kell posted the
highest score in the United States
on his medical specialty board ex-
aminations.

Over 300 physicians throughout
America wrote the test this year.

Kell and his wife Beverlee mov-
ed to Palo Alto, California, in the
summer of 1989 so he could do
his residency training in Physical
Medicine and Rehabilitation at
Stanford University.

Prior to moving south, Kell
practised family medicine from an
office on East [Sth in North Van-
couver and worked regularly in
the Lions Gate Hospital emergen-
cy ward from 1972 to 1989,

After Kell finishes his residency
at Stanford this summer, the Kells
man to move north to San Fran-
cisco.

“S'ny starting work next week at
St. Francis Memorial Hospital in
San Francisco,"' Kell said from his
home in Palo Alto.

Kell will be working with pa-
tients who suffer sport- and per-
forming-art-related injuries out of
the hospital's rehabilitation centre,

Many of the injuries he will be
treating are neck- and back-related
problems that) are occupational
hazards specific to athletes and
musicians,

Teen parenting program pushed

Education and Daycare Advisory Committee is lobbying
North Vancouver District 44 school trustees to set up an
education and day-care program for teen parents.

According to a brief presented
to the board on Tuesday night by
the committee, ‘The proposed
North Shore Parenting Teen
Education and Daycare Program
is being developed to help support
young parents in continuing their
education and in becoming self-
sufficient, financially independent
and more conipetent in the areas
of life skills and parenting."

The committee has suggested
Carson Graham secondary school
as a possible site for the program
because of the school's accessibili-
ty.

Committee co-chairmen Kim
Collett and Laura Lee Kent pres-
ented the brief to the District 44
school board.

students to work in the day-care

would provide Grade 8 to 12

goals;

@a day-care component that
would require space for both in-
fants and toddlers;

@ a health component that would
be needed in the school where the
program is run;

@ailifeskills component that
would teach the teens parenting in
a supportive way while addressing
their social, emotional and
psychological needs.

North Shore Neighborhood
House (NSNH) has conditionally
agreed to run the day care and the
family support components.

The school district: administra-
tion will report to the board later
with suggestions about the pro-
gram proposal.
