tough life and he was a POW and
“he’s:paid his dues and he won't

put up with any pansies or

: bleeding-heart liberals or people

And he’s not especially fond of

gays or strays or fringe groups or

His opinions are useful not
because they are intolerant or
mean-spirited or even racist, but

. because they stir us up. We are
forced off the fence.

The welfare scam always plays
well in Poughkeepsie and the ref-
erence to ‘‘pansy’’ Svend Robin-
son is another sure target (a cheap
shot if I ever read one).

i respect Doug Collins’ refusal
te settle for any bull and his
vigilance of those with their hands
on the government’s purse strings,
but I would. suggest that. his
hard-edged, intolerant approach
be confined to one important issue

-at a time instead of trying to

cover everything | controversial
with the same predictable pen.
