Protect car from thieves ARE YOU doing everything you can to protect your car from thieves? This year thousands of Cana- dians will find their cars missing. The single most effective way to discourage car thieves is to lock your car and take the key. About a third of ali car thefts occur while the car is parked at home — so close the windows and lock it up. Don’t tempt the thief to break into the car by leaving inviting items in plain sight. If you must leave cameras, purses, or other property in the car, put it in the trunk, Park in a safe place. If a locked garage is available, use it. If not, choose a well-lit area. If your car has an aiarm system, turn it on every time you leave the car. Park your car with the wheels turned sharply into the curb. This will make it difficult for a thief to tow your car. if you park in a parking lot or garage, choose one that permits you to Jock your car and take the key. If you must use valet parking or an attendant parks your car ina parking facility, be sure to leave only the ignition key. Make certain the key has no identifying number on it.
