Yet many homeowners avoid a
natural wood floor because of
fears of constant waxing and
polishing.

With today’s high-tech wood
floor finishes, however, you can
enjoy the great look of natural
wood . flooring with virtually
maintenance-free no-wax care.

In fact, today’s finishes, require
only an occasional damp mopping,
making them easier to care for
than, virtually any other flooring
surface.

Preparing wood: floors for a
maintenance-free finish can be ac-
complished with minimal effort in

just one. day. To start, the entire . ,

surface must be sanded and
‘thoroughly free of dirt, dust, wax,
grease, oil or moisture. :

With old floors, remove any ex-
isting finish with a floor sanding
machine — the only method that
ensures a smooth, even finish.

, Sand three times, first with a

coarse (20 grit), then a medium (40 J

grit) and finally a. fine grit (100
,8rit)._sandpaper, removing dust

“after each step.

Certain woods, particularly pine
and maple, require 2 primer/sealer
before. finishing.-In addition,-use

of a prime/sealer, will help retain - :

the light wood color of these and
other fine woods, which would
otherwise darken “vith the finish.
When applying the actual! finish,
plan on approximately-300 square.
. feet of coverage for. each gallon.
Use a good quality clean wide
“brush or clean short nap roller
cover and an unpainted roller pan.
. Apply the finish evenly, letting it
‘flow into: the wood with a mini-
- mum of brushing or rolling. Allow
-to dry for at least one hour and
“lightly ‘sand with fine (100 grit)
sandpaper and remove dust. |
, Apply second ‘coat, allowing to
dry overnight (or a minimum of
-four hours). A third coat can be
added for an extra durable finish.
To maintain the lasting beauty

‘of your. fine wood finish, simply - §

‘damp mop weekly to remove dust
and dirt.
