Stroke through water
safety program quickly

CHANGES have been made to the

_ Red Cross Water Safety Program,

allowing swimmers to advance
“more quickly through the pro-
gram.

Program organizers say the
changes will mean age will no
longer hold participants back in
the Royal Life Saving Society's life
saving programs.

Emphasis has been placed on
providing greater challenges for
children by including such skills as
underwater swimming, work with
clothes:and timed fitness items.

The stroke requirements are also
now more easily integrated with

Content of the Bronze
Medallion award has been
tedesigned to suit a_ slightly

younger lifesaver.

Thirteen-year-olds may now at-
tempt this program.

The Bronze Cross award re-
mains at a minimum age of 14
years. It is the minimum award
needed to lifeguard. :
