Students are individually assessed and a program of studies us prescribed. The work required to com- plete several grades can be done over several months. For example, if an adult left school in grade nine, he or she can obtain a high school equivalency certificate without returning to school for three years. As Fraser notes “‘since most employers and training institutions require grade 12 graduation it is important that adults have a chance to gain this standing without having to. return to” the regular school system.
