TT: Black Sheep Restaurant at 121 East 12th

North Vancouver has an

interesting

history. Some of the historical aspects were
related to me by Bob George two weeks ago as he
was in the process of handing over the reins of his
establishment to the new owners — Jimmy Wong

and Chuck Chan.

The existing building was
constructed in 1935 as Scot-
tish Presbyterian church.
Twenty years later, 1955, it
became a Jehovah’s Witness
Kingdom Hall.

In 1975 the building was
vacated. It remained that way

renovated and opened up as
the Black Sheep Restaurant.
Since that time it has changed
ownership four times offer-
ing everything from fine din-
ing to Italian food to

hamburgers.

The dining area is a com-
bination of tables and booths
and there are hundreds of
plants hanging from the ceil-
ing. The focal point of the
room is a large stone
fireplace which adds warmth
and coziness on cold wet
nights. Upstairs the old choir
loft is used as a lounge and to
entertain small parties.

The current menu
Specializes in hamburgers
($3.95-$5.50) but offers a
selection of appetizers
($1.95-$4.65), finger foods
($1.75-$3.95), steaks and
assorted other dishes
($4.95-$9.95)

On the numerous times |
have eaten at the Black Sheep
I have enjoyed it immensely.
The reasonable prices of the
food items, the nitely drink
specials and the opportunity
to take advantage of the
weekly 2 for 1 coupons in

The News give one excellent
value for money.

The only drawbacks that |
have found are the difficulty
getting a parking spot (try
Lonsdale or the pay lot
across the street) and that
reservations are not accepted.

The restaurant is open 7

days a week from 11:30 to
2:00 am. There are daily lun-
cheon specials and a Sunday
brunch.
IDLE CHATTER: for the
next few weeks, Chez Michel
in West Van has some in-
teresting seafood specials and
fantastic prices on selected
bottles of white wine ... The
Keg. No. 1 (the first of all the
Keg operations) its closed.
Whether it is permanently
closed or to be renovated and
re-opened with a change in
cottcept is still up in the air.
So, if you want to ‘‘Keg it’’
