Remember | a what Ga Lauk had ito say Dear Editor: During the past-few weeks. several jeaders of the B.C. -Federation of Labour have been urging their members to -vote for the . New Democratic Party. However, I suggest that before making a decision the -rank-and-file consider the following remarks made by Gary Lauk at the NDP’s 1976 annual convention, and reported by ‘Neale Adams in the Van- couver Sun of June 12, 1976. Adams wrote: “MLA Gary- Lauk (Vancouver Centre) former “economic development minister, n warned party members to be careful in supporting the concept of free. collective bargaining. “Lauk, argued that the NDP’s long-term goal is a planned economy, which he said would be: inconsistent with collective bargaining.” So when you hear Jim Kinnaird, Jack Munro, and other labour leaders ‘preaching about the merits of the NDP remember what Gary Lauk had to say. Brian Gorval © Vancouver. The taxpayers ‘merchant marine ; Dear Editor: $6 our good NDP friends are going to have the revival - of an ancient corpse and start a “Canadian Merchant Marine”. Also build the ships in Canada. Of course we can build ships and operate them IF we want to be taxed to pay the subsidy todo so. It would notbe chicken feed. The cost-of building the ships would only be .a one. shot item. But those ships must be maintained, manned and stored. They must also be competitive in the freight charges. If the C.P.R. was com- pelled to register and man their ships in Canada they would not have any. Much cheaper to charter ships. Ship chartering is, I suppose, one of the most dog eat dog businesses. One of our large companies found this out recently. Remember you and I pay the subsidy, ‘perhaps not directly. — but we pay it. A.F. Menzies, North Vancouver Toallowners of obnoxious pets Dear Editor: Regarding your account of pets that have been shot with a pellet gun: I would have to agree that it is a shame that an animal should be caused discomfort in this manner but I cannot extend this fecling of concern tq the pet owner. , They ought to receive an application of the pellet gun for allowing their mutts to roam the neighborhood uncontrolled. Such irresponsible pet owners, I hope, would never let a two or three year old child roam around alone but yet they permit their guard dogs, hunting dogs, or herding Endangered species! dogs to come and pee on my rosebushes, pose a threat to small children, and disturb people's sleep. I realize that these clods are in the minority of pet owners but if they could only be objective and realize that if they want the joys of ownership. they must a <0 respect the rights of others and restrict their pet's ac- tivities. If this letter expresses the sentiments of other readers I could suggest they clip it or rewrite it in big block letters and forward it to owners of obnoxious pots. B.
