of the April fool

Dear Editor:

enthusiastically endorse the
proposal expounded in the article
“No narrows crossing” by Poisson
D’avril in your April | issue.

Here we finally have an idea
that brushes aside the accumulated
mind-sets of the past 50 years and
that finally gets back to basics.

If you will permit me, | would
like to expand D‘avril's s concept lo
encompass a larger view of the
Lower Mainlavd transportation
problem.

First, we must be realistic and
recognize that there are residents of
West Vancouver who must contin-
ue to commute to Vancouver while
they are readjusting their careers to
fit the new reality.

The SeaBus terminal is due for
rebuilding to fit in with Harcourt’s
casino. This presents an opportuni-
ty to add SeaBus service to

Ambleside to accommodate those
who must travel to Vancouver,

Second, we must recognize that
an appreciable portion of Lion's
Gute Bridge traffic is to the ferry
terminal at Horseshoe Bay and to
Squamish, Whistler, and beyond.

The appropriate solution to this
problem would be to relocate the
ferry terminal from Horseshoe Bay
to a new facility at the former
defence depariment site at Jericho
Beach.

In addition to existing services
to Nanaimo, Bowen Island and the
Sunshine Coast, they would inau-
gurate a service to Squamish to ser-
vice Whistler’s requirements.

I submit that the proposals are
consistent with, and complement,
the insightful D’avril proposal.
