Annie Lennox — Diva, BMG 1992 The absence of guitarist anu Eurythmics partner Dave Stewart has removed much edge, the cer- tain spark of danger that allowed some of the raunchier Eurythmics output to straddle the worlds of rock and pop at will. Lennox as diva performs at a sonic and lyrical level several steps, removed from the raw bravado strut of Savage. She's back to the moony temperament of Sweet Dreams. Ultimately, in terms of artistic progression, it is a stand-pat effort. Lennox remains one of the distinct voices of contemporary pop and she shares with us new satin finery, but Diva is not the in- novaiive and personal breakthrough it is hyped to be.
