Drugs seized THE NORTH Vancouver RCMP and West Vancouver Police drug squads made two separate drug seizures recently on the North Shore. According to a North Vancouver RCMP spokesman, as a result of a joint investigation the police seized 61 individually-packaged grams of cocaine on Feb. 22. The narcotic has an estimated street value of $6,100. Charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking are 22-year-old Paul Brian Stegavig and a 17-year-old youth. Both are fron: North Vancouver. On Feb. 26, the North and West Vancouver drug squads searched a North Vancouver sesidence and seized a complete marijuana cultivation set-up, including 28 plants. Charged with marijuana cultivation and possession of a narcotic for the purpose of trafficking are 33-year-old James Charles Webster and 29-year-old Lisa Knutson, both of North Vancouver. Apartment burns A CHILD playing with a lighter is believed to have caused a Feb. 29 fire that damaged an apartment in North Vancouver City. According to a North Vancouver City Fire Department spokesman, fire broke out in a bedroom at E-236 West First St. at approximately 12:30 p.m. The fire was contained in en upper floor bedroom. . The room was gutted. The upper floor of the apartment sustained heavy smoke damage. Residents of the ome escaped without injury, but one of three family cats died in the fire. _ The fire caused :ipproximately $20,000 damage to the apartment and about $15,000 to contents. The fire depart‘ient spokesman advises people that lighters or matches sre ‘‘tools not toys’’ and should be kept out of reach of inquisitive young children. Alert neighbors spotted two youths running from the scene.
