New Year’s Day

PENGUINS WON'T be the only
ones getting their feet wet on the
first day of 1989.

A group of humans plans to ring
in the New Year with a daring dip
in icy waters when they take the
seventh annual Penguin Plunge at
Panorama Park in Deep Cove.

Last year, approximately 65
swimmers plunged into freezing

cold water to break in the New
Year while over 200 spectators
cheered them on.

“It’s a great, fun event and safe
too,”’ said Penguin Plunge presi-
dent tvfervyn Ovesen.

The North Vancouver Recre-
ation Commission sponsored-event
is open to all ages. People may
come as they are or dressed in
