asked to take in the event
from the Capilano Pacific
Trail on the river's west
bank.

Rotary Club member and co-
organizer Andy Turner. ‘it's in-
herently dangerous — we've had
one (club member fall) and get in-
jured already. We don't want
anybody on those rocks.”

Race-watchers interested in sec-
ing the 25,000 plastic ducks swim
their little hearts out and win their
sponsors big prizes are advised to
park at Park Royal shopping cen-
tre and walk up the trail to see th.
fun.

“They'll be able to sce
everything, all the activity in-
cluding the divers (who will follow
the floating Nlock and stcer it on its
way) and the ducks go by," said
Turner.

Parking and access from the
North Vancouver side of the river
— the cast bank — are severely
limited, he noted.

And in order to ensure the in-
tegrity of the event, which is
licensed by the provincial gov-
ernment, a horde of volunteers will
be patrolling the banks making
sure all ducks stay in the race.

“After the race we have to ac-
count for every duck or we might
not get a licence to do it again,”
said Turner. “Theft must rot oc-
cur if this is to become an annual
event."*

A 20:YEAR-OLD North Van-
couver man was sentenced Feb. 2
in West Vancouver provincial
court to five days in jail after he
pleaded guilty to breaching his
probation and failing to appear for
a scheduled court date.

Grandison, Fluter was sentenced to
three days in jail for breaching his
probation and two days in jail for
