THE LOWER Lonsdale lands
owned by North Vancouver City
will aot be advertised nationally
and interationally for sale or lease
— at least, not vet.

A resolution approving such ad-
vertisements to attract develop pro-
posals was one of the last acts of
the outgoing North Vancouver City
Council on Nov. 30.

Following a motion proposed by
Ald. John Braithwaite that resotu-
tion was reconsidered and rescind-
ed at the Dee. 21 council meeting.

In proposing the reconsid-
eration, Braithwaite ‘said that the
motion to advertise was
“premature and expeditiously ap-
proved’? and that ‘tpublic par-
ticipation should be encouraged
and solicited prior to any
development information package
being distributed.’*

Ald. Stella Jo Dean opposed the
reconsideration and said ‘‘council
would be dragging its feet’? and
losing out on! Tax Sales Land
Reserve revenue and subsequent
lower municipal taxes.

Ald. Rod Clark said he wants
the new council .to create a
“tight-knit package’? for the
development of what he called
“the jewel of North Vancouver.’’

The tand, he said, is very
valuable and could provide at no
cost to the city a museum and ar-
chives and possibly a theatre.
