34 - Sunday, June 21, 1987 - North Shore News Explore the wildlife on Galapagos Isiand MICHAEL JACKSON, recognized internationally as a Galapagos Island specialist, leads a tour there July 19 sponsored by the University of British Columbia Centre for Continuing Education. Jackson, author of Galapagos: A Natural History Guide, which is used ‘extensively by Galapagos tour leaders, has served as zoologist with the Cambridge Darwin Centenary Galapagos Expedition and has worked in the islands as a naturalist guide. He teaches at St. Michael’s University College in Victoria. Tour participants wiil spend eight days viewing animal and plant life on 10 different Galapagos Islands in three to four-hour excursions from the 108-foot luxury yacht Isabeila. A second part of the tour, July 19 to August 5, consists—after a stop in Quito, Ecuador—of a tour of Peru. Cuzco, Machu Picchu, Chinchero and Lima are on the itinerary. A few places in the tour are still available. The cost of The Natural History of the Galapagos Islands and Peru trip, which departs from Vancouver July 19 and returns August 5, is $5,145 Canadian (subject to change in airfare and fluctuating exchange rates). Slalom driving, which is also known as autocross, pits the driver and the car against a pre-set course and the time clock.
