There are services for seniors, single parents, the disabled, for individuals, and for groups. Each year, Revenue Canada trains voiunteers in the basics of income tax return preparation, then sends them out to help others. Last year, some 245 volunteers in the Lower Mainland helped more than 8,700 people to fill out their income tax returns. Training sessions are being of- fered this year for volunteers on March 3, 4, and 5 between 9 a.m. and | p.m. at the 411 Seniors Cen- tre Society, at 411 Dunsmuir in Vancouver. Training sessions will also be offered in French on March 6 and 7. visually impaired. These can be obtained by phoning 689-5411. SPECIAL NEEDS Revenue Canada also offers a service for the deaf or hearing im- paired. Those with a TDD (telecommunications device for the deaf) can ask questions about their income tax return by calling the toll-free number 1-800-665-0354. CKVU will be offering two half-hour, closed-captioned televi- sion programs on income tax teturn preparation at 3:30 p.m. cn Sun., March 16 and 23. Revenue Canada's telephone in- formation lines will have extended hours of operation until the April 30 income tax deadline. FREE ADVICE The North Shore Information Volunteer Centre will be offering free income tax advice again this year. The service is aimed at those who earned less than $16, i 1985. Volunteers will be available at the centre, at 1551 Pemberton in North Vancouver, between 9:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Phone 985- 7138 for an appointment. The centre also offers free help in filling out guaranteed income supplement forms, and in calculating the child tax credit for single parents. The Institute of Chartered Ac- countants offers free help in preparing income tax returns to seniors aged 65 and older who had a gross income of $12,000 or less in 1985.
