November 18 and 19, The
provincial conference, co-
sponsored by the Ministry of
Attorney General and the
‘Insurance Corporation of
B.C., will be addressed by
consumer advocate Ralph
Nader and international
authorities on traffic safety
and accident prevention.

The conference, first of its
kind in B.C., will examine
key issues including the
driving age, the impact of
alcohol and marijuana on
driving. seat belt use, in-
surance costs, and new
regulations. Delegates will

DETROIT (UPI) - Indefinite
layoffs in the auto industry
will jump by 4,460 next week
to 243,374 due mainly to fur-
loughs by General Motors
Corp., the automakers said
Friday.

The layoff figure is the
highest since the second
week of May. Layoffs this
week stood at 238;914.
Temporary layoffs of 19,400
next week are down from
23,225. - 7

the layoffs are occuring in its
