Keep propane outside

THE RECENT fatal propane explosion that leveled a
house on Commercial Drive in Vancouver prompted me to
call my friend Ralph Goizek (Bestway Major Appliances)
to get his views on the storage of propane:

“Never in the house! [t's
murder! Propane, unlike natural
gas, is heavier than sir and will

find the lowest spot where it
pools, Pilot lights ignite it and
boom!

“Natural gas is lighter than air
and dissipates.

“You wauldn’t believe some of
the do-it-yourself installations I’ve
seen — leaking like a sieve.

“df stupidity hurt, a lot of peo-
ple would be running around
screaming.*”

So, if you've got a bottle or
cannister of propane in your
house, drcp the News and take it
outside.

A reader sent me a newspaper
clipping for a no-bake drop
cookie mixture, asking if it were

one of mine and, if so, was some-
thing missing? It wasn’t mine but
I assured her that | had a simifar
one in my files that fd check.

Sure enough -- the Hquid was
omitted from her version. Here's
mine:

Oatmeal Crunch Cookies
V4 cup cocoa
% cup milk
V4 cup margarine
I cup sugar
¥2 teaspeon vanilla
142 cups oatmeal -
2 cup ceconut
(her recipe alsa called for chopped
nuts and add some if you like)

Ia a saucepaa, mix cocoa, milk,
margarine and sugar. Bring to a
boil over low heat —- use a whisk
to keep the mixture smooth. Add
remaining ingredients and drop by
teaspoonfuls on a greased cookie
sheet. As they cool, they firm-up
and handle easily. These are great
