PARENTS have the greatest influence on their children’s behav- ior. Should parents be taken for granted? I know that parents don’t always do the _fight thing, but just because ‘they’re parents doesn’t mean _ that they know everything. “~ Tt’s not as if we as chil- dren come with an instruc- ~tion manual. The way I see it, parents can cither bring their children up the way they themselves were brought up or bring them up their own way. Parents don’t always have a positive influence on their children. It’s like everything else in life. Nothing and no one is perfect. There are a lor of deci- sions we have to make in life. All we have to do is choose the right ones. Some children end up taking the wrong path in life. This doesn’t mean that the kid had bad parents, It simply proves that, unfortunately, in our society some kids end up learning more on the streets than at home. There’s nothing wrong with having them learn what gocs on in the streets. This makes them street-smart, and prepares them for the real world, It’s mostly teenagers who have. problems with their parents, It’s true that teenagers have a lot of Stress, and it’s also true that parenthood most parents have lots of stress, and probably don’t even have much patien :¢ when they get home. They go to work and have to worry about bills, family, monthly payments, etc. They have to go through all of this everyday, With the pressures of today, it’s a challenge to try to solve daily problems in a calm way and not rake it out on anyone, Our parents try to do this, but aren’t always successful, Our parents should be rewarded, Not only do they try to build a life fur us, but they also try to make sure we live a decent, worthwhile life. It’s true that there are wonderful and there are cruel parents. This is very sad, but like I said before, “no one is perfect.” if you have wonderful Parents than you are truly blessed. I know there are a lot of people who take their parents for granted, : The 2nd Annual British Columbia Some people probably have wonderful parents and don’t even realize it yet. Take a good close look at your parents. Ask yourself, what do you see? Do they love you? If your parents care for you, worry about you, and take care of you, then chances are that they love you a lot. They may not be the coolest parents. They may not be the easiest people to talk to, but if they love you, you should try to make the best of it. You don’t know what Wednesday, October 23, 1996 — North Shore News ~ 34 you have until you lose it. We should all take some time to acknowledge what our parents have done for us. When we were young our parents changed our diapers. They bathed us, dressed us, and put up with our mischievous selves. We were taught the difference between right and wrong. They make a life for us, and make sure we get the education we iced to sur- vive in this world. They try to be available when we need them, and try to give us everything. A lot of people don’t know how lucky they are to have parents who care about them. If your parents care about you, and watch out a THE CITY OF NORTH VANCOUVER Ev EAR YE HEAR YE > NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING for your welfare, but don’t have mich money, be thank- ful you have them.
