Townhomes opposed

A PROPOSAL to build an cight-
unit townhouse on Fromme Road
in North Vancouver District was
met with strong opposition at a
public hearing Monday.

At issuc is a proposal by Seafirst
Development Corp. (to build a
garden apartment on land zoned
for single family.

But residents who attended the
mecting say the project will add to
an already heavily clogged
Fromme Road.

“Parking is atrocious (on
Fromine Road). Bight units are too
many for this area,’’ Greg Fowler
of 2591 Fromme Road told council
and other North Vancouver
District residents who attended the
hearing.

Fowler said that people are so
desperate {o find purking on
Fromme that they disregard fire
hedrants, and that accidents could

occur if more traffic is added to
the area. Fifteen one-site parking
spaces are proposed for the site.

Some residents raised concerns
about noise that would result from
the increase in traffic, while others
suggested a traffic study be con-
ducted in the area,

But the architect for the plan,
Tom Morton, said other develop-
ments such as the Lynn Valley
Co-op have much higher popula-
tion densities than the proposed
development, and that the parking
that would be provided is ‘‘aver
and above"’ what is required by the
district, which is 1.7 spaces per
unit.

District planner Kai Kreuchen
assurcd residents that the traffic
flow on Fromme would be studied.

Council is expected to deal with
the proposal at its Feb, 21 meeting.
