ete nee here eee ces Poet var Renna SES dace ennege tame mes Mailbox — Rod, not Craig Clark Deur Editor: Considerable confusion abounds in North Van; the result of a letter addressed to the North Shore News in response to a front page story showing N.V. City alderman Rod Clark smirk- ing in the shadows of North Vancouver's Garbage Mountain. The thrust of the letter was this; if Clark enjoys the garbage as much as he ap- pears to in that picture, he might be interested in mov- ing into the municipality where he could continually savour the flavour, and at the same time possibly find himself a real estate bargain close by, Unfortunately, District California Dear Editor: I have resisted writing to you in reference to your col- umns since 1 am a ‘’Da- mYankee"’ and thus should not poke my nose into Ca- nadian affairs. However, my mother. was a Canadian. from’ Saskat- * chewan and I grew up in the “dirty thirties’? working summers on my _ grand- mother’s farm in that pro- vince. This may make. me eligible for ‘‘nose poking.’”’ I have a friend who lives in North Vancouver and he mails Doug Collins’ columns to me. His name will go unmentioned for’ fear that the good burghers of that ci- ty might tar and feather him for sending seditious materi- al out of the country. Since Alderman Craig Clark became mistaken for Rod Clark in the minds of many newspaper readers and Craig found himself inundated with unfavorable comments - from many of his constitu- ents. Clark's solicitor has suggested that | write to vou and request the record be set straight. Unlike Rod Clark, Craig Clark is a North Vancouver District Alderman and therefore keenly aware of the many adverse impacts being created by the con- tinued operation of the Premier Street landfill. Be- ing both a realtor and an appointee to the District's solid waste committee, Craig Clark was quick to recognize congrats for Collins he is a well known citizen and an acquanitance of Les Bewley he would be instantly recognizable, Suffice it to say that I ap- preciate the articles because I thought all the ‘‘do- gooders,’’ liberals and loonies were in my city and now I find that Vancouver probably would outdo us in that regard. As of late, we in the States have begun to put a curb on our Ibierals and our unions and this is beginning to make this country a better place to live. The unions have just lost another three per cent of members in 1984. England itself, through Mrs. Thatcher is beginning to tame the power of the coal unions. Unlike Rod Clark, Craig Clark acted both swiftly and responsibly to prevent the dump from spreading fur- ther. Alderman Craig Clark voted in favor of a council] motion that received the unanimous support of all District aldermen to close: the landfill no later than December 1985. For this | respec! Alderman Craig Clark and apologize for any embarrassment my letter might have caused him. Glenys Lawson, North Vancouver. After reading your articles } see that Canada has a much longer, and rougher, road to travel in taming its liberals. Keep up the good work, Mr. Collins, because your articles just may be ger- minating a movement of common sense that may put some backbone into your politicians and make them say no once in a while to the liberals. OF course if Canada con- tinues unabated on this liberal course we in the United States will have no recourse but to arm our border and keep the ultra liberalists in Canada and out of the United States.
