Sometime within the next
two weeks, the Canadian
government will sign an
agreement with the United
States to permit testing of
the Cruise Missile weapons
system in northern Alberta.

The signing of the agreement
has been severely and
justifiably criticized: the

umbrella agreement has not
been introduced in a way
that allows public debate. A
Fecent pol indicated that a
majority of Canadians

and a number of Con-
servative and Liberal MPs
also oppose it.

The Cruise Missile
represents a giant slep
forward in the escalation of
the arms race. The cruise
missile is a “first strike”
weapon; an offensive
weapon designed to initiate a
nuclear war.

It is a jet propelled
delivery system that travels a
pre-programmed flight path,
carrying a 200 kiloton
warhead to a selected target
