TORONTO (UPC) - A
General Motors dealership
has agreed in an out-of-court
settlement to pay a dis-
gruntled car owner $1,000
for selling him a full-sized
vehicle with a compact car
transmission, Judge Marvin
Zuker said Tuesday.

Walter Alexander had
sued GM and West York
Motors in small claims court
protesting the full-size
Chevrolet Caprice he pur-
chased in 1977 was equip-

ped with a compact car

transmission.

Defense lawyer Jeff Lyons
said he was “very happy at
the outcome, " but said “the

process was long and tor ..

tuous.”
Lyons said also the “ Class
action idea for other con-

sumers who have had similar

problems was not dead but
there wasn’t a great deal of
interest shown by them so I
doubt that other consumers
will band together.”
