Dear Editor: A couple of points with respect to Timothy Renshaw’s Feb. 22 column on North Van District land sales and expen- ditures. It is important to view district land development in a historical context. Since the that many millions of dollars of land sale funds were used for “road patching.” The truth is that past councils did indeed take the Proceeds from land sales and MAIL Box Land sales have helped build N. Van District use them for capital projects. Sometimes that — included major road reconstruction. It also included pools, ree cen- tres, park construction, libraries and many other com- munity facilities. To somehow imply that the monies were spent improperly is just dead wrong. Rick Buchols North Vancouver formation of the district in 189}, land has been sold to raise the funds to build infra- structure. While to some this practice is no longer popular it in no way should reflect nega- tively on previous councils. Times change and more recent councils have “spent” over $300 million to preserve green. space by forgoing the revenue that would have flowed to district coffers from land sales.
