The Carson Graham Eagles clawed the Handsworth Royal: 34-6 in the lth annual Buchanan Bowl at Kinsmen Field. Carson now holds a 7-4 bowl record against their cross- town rivals. . The eagles —~ the ones in the sky, noi those in cleats ard shoul- der pads — disappeared early in the second quarter, but by then the Eagles were well on their way with a 14- 0 lead. But’ Handsworth knuckled down for the rest of the quarter, stopping a strong Eagies’ drive with an interception by Jon Bradshaw. Larry won the 12 kilome- tre hillclimb world champi- onship race in a time of 22 minutes and 53 seconds —~ just eight seconds ahead of a Czech rider. Seventy nine rid- ers from: 40 countries partici- pated in the climb. Two days later it was Barbara’s turn, and she lived up to her husband's result as she won the 40km road race in wet and coid conditions. Barb edged out a UK and Swiss rider in a three- women sprint to the finish.
