With such a small fraction of guns used irresponsibly, it is easy to see how the deranged can fall through the cracks and obtain a gun regardless of controls. Anyone using any gun against a human by aiming, wounding, killing or threatening, should have a sizable mandatory jail deterrent quite apart from his sentence for the effect of the gun’s use. The big question is: if the one-third of all killers who used guns were not able to get them, how many would have killed by other means? Also, if we are so:concerned about killing by guns, why: do we allow convicted killers free after about three years? Methinks this is what the control advocates should be talking about.
