HOWE SOUND Round Jable Steering Committee FOLLOWING THE March release of a proposal to establish a local round table, the Howe Sound Round Table Steering Committee recently an- nounced the names of 18 initial members. The selection committee, com- prising five members of the sieering committee and one repre- sentative from each of the Com- mission on Resources and En- vironment and the B.C. Round Table, received over 60 nomina- tions. Howe Sound currently faces a number of complex challenges needed to balance the area’s en- vironmental, social and economic interests. The Howe Sound Round Table was set up to encourage a regional perspective when addressing these issues. Museum of Mining in Britannia; @ Anders Ourom, a Vancouver- based executive director of the Federation of Outdoor Mountain Clubs of B.C. and lawyer; 6 Don Shaw, manager of forest- ty/logging for Terminal Forest Products; @ Victoria Troup, a scientist and instructor at Capilano College in pure and applied science; @ Pat Tyson, 2 Sunshine Coast resident and representative of the CEP: Union on the Provincial Trade Advisory Committee; and @ Eva Vacek, a West Vancouver planner who has worked with Parks Canada and municipal and provincial agencies. Other members may be added by the round table during its first year. Local round tables were first proposed by the B.C. Round Table. They are made up of individuals who reflect the diversity of inter- ests in the community. Local round tables operate by “consensus and differ from other local planning bedies in that they have a broad mandate to address sustainability.
