Volunteers are work- ing to ensure that every child in North Vancouver receives a gift at Christmas and that they and their families have enough nourishing food to eat throughout the season. Organized by two co-chairmen, Roy Nelson and Peter Mackay, and operated by volunteer staff members, the North Vancouver Christmas Bureau has officially opened its doors and is ready to accept donations from individuals and organizations in the com- munity. The North Vancouver Christmas Bureau is located at the North Vancouver Chamber of Commerce office at 13f East 2nd St., in space donated by Chamber executive director Judy Ainsworth. In existence for more than 40 years as an independent, seasonal- ly operated entity, the North Van- couver Christmas Bureau became a program of the North Shore Family Services Society (NSFSS) six years ago. Last year 760 North Vancouver families were assisted during the Christmas season by the North Vancouver Christmas Bureau. New toys were collected and distributed to children of all ages, and food hampers were prepared and delivered to bureau clients by individuals and organizations. North Vancouver Christmas Bureau volunteers are stressing the importance of giving to the Christmas Bureau early. Said co- chairman Peter Mackay, “If we are going to make the best, most responsible decisions about giving to bureau clients we must start receiving donations as soon as possible.”” Individuals, schools, dusiness and community groups are all en- couraged to get involved in the spirit of giving — from making a cash, food or new toy donation at a designated drop-off depat to preparing a creative hamper made up of favorite Christmas food items for a specific family. For more information about how individuals or organizations can assist a family at Christmas time, call the North Vancouver Christmas Bureau at 984-XMAS (9627). The Company made a genuine effort to reach a peaceful settlement for a new collective agreement, firstly through face-to-face negotiaions and then through a government appointed mediator. However, the Union quickly rejected these efforts. This labour dispute, does not involve our taxi drivers who are non-unionized empioyees. Given this, and our firm commitment towards the provision of taxi service to our North Shore customers, the Company will ensure that our prompt taxi service continues without interruption. Please be assured that the iabour dispute will not affect the quality of the taxi service to you, our customers. We appreciate your understanding in this matter.
