Splash, Arts Umbrella’s most significant annual fundraising event, is responsible for raising 13% of their annual operating budget. Twenty thousand children par- ticipate annuaily in Arts Um- brella’s programs, and 75% of these children require and will receive financial assistance. This year’s Splash art auction raised 2total of $175,000 and Yorkton Securities’ head honcho Frank Giustra was responsible for a good portion of that money. The first painting off the block was a Joe Average ... Frank had announced earlier that he intended to buy the painting — and he meant it! By the time the bidding had reached $8,000, the painting belonged to the Giustras, and the’ mean price for a Joe Average had reached an all-time high.
