Mayors recognize 3rd crossing need ALL THREE North Shore mayors have agreed that any com- prehensive transportation plan of the area must include considera- tion of a third Burrard Inlet crossing. Ia a prepared statement released following Tuesday's meeting between the Downtown Vancouver Association (DVA) and the mayors, both sides agreed that the question of a third crossing should be an essential pact of the regional transportation plan cur- rently being put together by the Greater Vancouver Regional District and the previncial government. The meeting was organized by the DVA to determine North Shore interest in a third crossing. In a Feb. 5 News story chroni-ting proposals for a third crossing, DVA. representatives said various companies around the world had expressed interest in constructing a toll crossing of Burrard Iniet. Planning for a third crossing, they said, should begin now to address future transportztion needs. But all three mayors said a third crossing was well down the list of local transportation project priorities. Layton, Shu pleaded guilty to both charges end was fined $560 on the first and $250 on the second, Thieves make off with stereo THIEVES TORE the heart out of 2 seniors’ Valentine’s Day dance planned to be held Saturday by seniors living in the Twin Towers complex at 172 East Second Street in North Veacotver. Thieves broke into the seniors’ second-floor commor room early Tuesday morning and stole approximately $1,300 worth of stereo equipment. North Vancouver District Mayor Marilyn Baker, who was elected as the deputy chairman of the GVRD’s board of directors last month, has been named chairman of the GVRD’s Executive Commit- tee, deputy chairman of the Fi- nance and Adminstration Commit- tee and deputy chairman of the Committee on Transportation of Dangerous Goods. She has also been appointed to represent the GVRD on the Municipal Finance Authority of British Cotumbia, Western Trans- portation Advisory Council and Tourism Vancouver. Baker is also a member of the Housing, Development Services and Labor Relations committees. District aldermen Murray Dykeman and Bill Rodgers were appointed to the Waste & Waste Management and Parks commit- tees, respectively. North Vancouver City Mayor Jack Loucks, meanwhile, has been named the chairman of the Labor Relations and Electoral Areas committees and is also a member of the Water and Waste Manage- ment, Executive, Hospital and Fi- nance and Administration commit- tees. City Ald. Stella Jo Dean is a member of the GVRD Parks Committee. West Vancouver Mayor Don Lanskail was re-appointed chair- man of the 25-member regional Parks Committee, chairman of the Recycling Subcommittee and dep- uty chairman of the Development Services Committee. He is also a member of the the Executive, Water and Waste Management committees and the subcommittee on Cultural Fund- ing. West Vancouver Ald. Alex Brokenshire was renamed as first deputy chairman of the Labor Relations Committee, while Ald. Mark Sager was appointed to the Parks and Electoral Areas com- mittees. Named to the Executive and Parks committees was Lions Bay Mayor Gordon Prescot. Bowen Island GVRD_ repre- sentative Gai! Tayfor, meanwhile, is deputy chairman of the Electoral Areas Committee and a member of the Parks Committee.
