WV firm receives funding A WEST Vancouver com- pany which specializes in the export of salmon eggs has been granted a $125,000 loan from the federal gov- ernment’s Western Diver- sification Fund (WD) that will be used for expansion and marketing. Hatfield Biotechnology Ltd., which owns Sale Spring Aquafarms Lid., an exporter of salmon eggs, said the money will be used to expand and improve us capacity to raise and incubate coho eggs to meet the demands of the international salmon egg mar- cet. Total cost of the expansion and marketing project is estimated at $354,403. “These fish originally came from the Kitimat river area and have been bred in captivity for three generations at the federal research station in Nanaimo," said Hatfield Biotechnology presi- dent Chris Hatfield. He estimates the size of the salmon egg market to be between $15 million and $20 million an- nually. The West Vancouver- based company will initially mar- ket the coho eggs in Chile and North America and then expand operations to Japan, Korea and Indonesia.
