motorists insured by ICBC have

few years, in line with a similarly

ICBC's system for sharing the
premium load among motorists is
called the Claim-Rated Scale.
That system allows motorists with
no ‘‘at-fault’' claims for at least
four years a 40% discount on
their total premiums.

Those who have caused acci-

dents pay more than the claim-_

free because they have proven that

- they are a higher risk, just as

smokers pay higher life insurance
premiums. For instance, while
premiums for all coverages have
risen an average 19% for claim-
free motorists in 1992, someone
who caused an accident in 1991
will be looking at 2 60% to 70%
increase this year.
