THE WEATHER is perfect.
Youre getting ready to head for
the hills on a camping trip with
your friends and/or family. While
you are planning what to take, the
District of North Vancouver Fire
Department wants you to consider
some safety tips as well,

First, buy only fire-resistant
tents. But understand orhat all
tents, even those labelled flame-
resistant, will burn. So keep any
fuel-burning products — lanterns,
stoves and the like — outside and
well away from the tent.

Pitch your tent at vast 15 feet
from any fireplace. campfire, or
phice you plan to set up your
stove. Clear an area at feast three
feet witke all around your tent,
removing all dry leaves, pine nee-
dles and dry grass. For extra safe-
ty, wet this area down before you
go to bed each night. Then, if a
fire is started by a careless camper
your tent will be a little safer.

Before going to bed each night,
and before leaving the campsite,
thoroughly douse all fires with
water -- more than you think is
necessary and turn) off all
fuel-fed lanterns and stoves.
