People have grown to expect that the very best of medica! expertise and equipment wili be availabie when they or a member of their family is in need. The role the community plays is tremendous. With its support, Lions Gate Hospital continues to provide outstanding health services and patient care to North Shore families and other communities requiring these services. The Lions Gate Hospital Founda- tion raises funds to purchase priority hospital equipment. Funds raised greatly impact the level of service provided by making the ‘quality difference’ The Foundation works year ‘round to support general equipment needs, such as microscopes, chemotherapy pumps and Operating Room equipment. It also undertakes 1-2 special projects each year. In 1988, $150,000 was raised, in- cluding funds for 12 critical care beds. In 1989, $450,000 was raised, and 6 Instensive Care Unit monitors and an iCU centralized monitoring system were purchased. In 1990, over $1 million was raised — $790,000 for maternity ward renovations through the Mum’s the Word Campaign, and $500,000 for ongoing equipment needs. These funds helped purchase a new gamma camera to give physicians the best available imaging information to assist them in diagnosing early stages of cancer and other diseases. This past year, over $1 million will have been raised through various campaigns with corporations, individuals, service clubs and community groups. Bid For Life, a gala bail and auction, raised over $40,000 to equip and refurbish two new cnemotherapy rooms. This year’s campaign will also enable the hospital to purchase 6 new cardiac monitors which can continuously track and record a patient’s vital signs. The Lions Gate Hospital Foundation is also working to raise funds in suppon of the hospital's bed replacement program. At a cast of $5,600 each, these beds provide independence and comfort to patients who spend most of their hospital stay in bed. Of the hospital’s 720 bed capacity. over 200 beds have been purchased. These successes would not have been possible without the commitment, leadership and support provided by those who volunteer to serve on the Foundation’s Board of Directors and many fundraising committees. At iast count, over 150 volunteers and 10,000 donors have made the commitment to assist Lions Gate Haspital in the provision of exemplary health care.
