What's your family background?
“Twas born ip Jamaica in a small
town called Spaldings. I come
from a very large family — nine
children. My father was a
Lebanese immigrant who came to
Jamaica in 1924, He was a mer-
chant. My mother was _ local
Jamaican of German ancestry.”’

What was your experience living
in the Middle East ? ‘‘It was
very stimulating...I’m a very ur-
ban person, | love cities...after
meeting my husband [ became
more interested in the Arab
culture and the Islamic
religion...Life is tough there, but I
think it) makes you tough, it
makes you a survivor.
