_MAILBOXx PM is no Trudeau Dear Editor: When he was Prime Minister, I loathed Trudeau as a character. Watching him on TV recently, I suddenly felt fresh air. I remembered that in my time, we once had a real politician. A real politician is one who can and does say anything that suits his immediate and long-term purpose, be it true or artful and often dishonest practice. We can expect his message to change, depending on whether he’s in the process of gaining power, or already got it. Most important is his ability to provoke people to listen, even when the listener has doubts about his integrity. Mulroney doesn’t seem to have that ability. He and most members of the House do not have the per- sonality, persuasion or rhetoric to teach the hearts of many people. He could be forgiven perhaps, if like Trudeau he had the ability to walk on the heads of other politi- cians. In comparison to Trudeau, there are few recognizable characters in the House today of any kind to like or to loathe. One can have no reaction at all to their mental mumblings. Just my opinion, but perhaps we are expected to be kind toe Cana- dian MFs! K.G.
