aN SPORTS Local athletes receive scholarships LYNN FORWARD, Megan Gor- don and Jennifer Rauh were amony 30 athletes in the province to receive Nancy Greene Scholar- ships this year, Rita Johnston, Minister of Municipal Affairs, Recreation and Culture announc- More than 300 applications were received for the $1500 scholar- ships. The recipients are chosen for their high level of athletic and ac- ademic achievement and com- munity involvement. The athletes — graduating high school students — must be planning to pursue post-secondary education in B.C. Forward, a graduate of West Vancouver Secondary, plays soccer with the North Shore Highlanders which won the B.C. Under-18 Championship Metro Division. She plans to study sports psychology or sports medicine. Gordon, an 18-year-old Kit- silano student who lives in West Vancouver, has been an interna- tional spring board and platform diver for the past seven years. She plans to study arts at UBC.
