22 ~ Friday, November 4, 1988 - North Shore News Parents and children Family show slated in NV JERRY BRODEY hates being hit over the head with the moral of a story. In fact, he hates it so much that he knows others will hate it too. That is why he and his wife, Kim, never do that in their family shows. “Like any other parents we want kids to be responsible,”’ said Jerry, 39, one haif of the Kim and Jerry Brodey family entertainment act that has won awards for its novel approach to topics such as step- parenting, ecology and more. “Whether they’re three or 19, they have to be able to make a positive contribution.” Among their repertoire of songs — which local residents will get a chance to hear this weekend at Centennial Theatre — is Garbage, Garbage, a piece with a message about litter. “‘Hopefully what we do is pres- ent the stuff in an entertaining and poignant way,’’ explained Jerry. **We just want to have a good time with the families and talk about the things that matter in a fun way.” For their novel approach, the two have garnered audience and critical acclaim as well as earning a Juno Award nomination. ’ “Children’s entertainment has taken a traditional path for the miost part,’’ said Jerry. ‘‘But there are going to be more people in the future who can jump out of that role, taking a few risks on the stage.”” Kim and Jerry Brodey perform Nov. 6 at 2 p.m. For details: 988- 6166.
