By MAUREEN CURI Contributing Writer “In the opinion of many, it is nothing more than an ugly eyesore. 1 propose that we tear it down and get on with other more productive projects to enhance the Ambleside waterfront,’ Irwin told district council at Monday's meeting. The building in question once served as the ferry terminal when West Vancouver was only accessi- ble by boat. There have been many public submissions for the future use of the site, ‘but the most popu- lar has been to dedicate the building as a heritage site, with possible use as a museum or display area. But Irwin pointed out that the edifice not only leans visibly, but has a warped roof, sagging walls and uneven floors. There is no foundation, the plates and joists are rotten and ‘the plumbing and wiring do not mect building code standards, he said. | “To repair this building, it would have to be dismantled board by board and. then rebuilt,’’ Irwin submitied. “The cost of all this would be exorbitant,”’ he added. Irwin could not understand why the ferry building, which is of throughout the province over the past three months. Collins states: *'These meetings provide us with the valuable op- portunity of hearing first hand the concerns of various organizations from British Columbia, as well as their ideas for the future.” The meeting, which is open to the public, will begin at 9:30 a.m. in Room Pier C, Level R of the Pan Pacific Hotel. ® Accounting ® Management Consulting Stanley G.
