By GINA FORSYTH WEST VANCOUVER Sec- ondary wil! be the site of a unique education opportuni- ty for adults in September. According to principal John Williams, regualar high school classes will be open to anyone interested, including housewives, the unem- ployed, and “perhaps retired people.”’ Although the idea has been considered for several years, the case where a West Van woman contacted Williams and wanted to take a course the schoo! was of- fering was enough to con- vince him to go ahead with the idea. Williams belives “everyone will benefit from working together’’, especial- ly the students. The interest of the older students is strong and this ‘can rub off on the younger students,” said Williams.’ “*t would doubt that junior classes would be open... we’re looking at the however, “If we've got facilities, why not use them to their: fullest potential?” ‘Villiams asked. ANOTHER PLAYER has expressed some interest in the future of the Park and Tilford distillery site and it could have some effect on the proposal to construct a shopping centre there. Pinecorp Research, a group of five companies that is currently constructing a. research facility at Lonsdale Quay, has approached North Vancouver City council to explore the possible use of the Park and Tilford site for a manufacturing centre. Discussions between Pinecorp and the city — which did not involve Park and Tilford’s parent com-. pany Schenly Distilleries.— were exploratory only, says Pinecorp’s Garry munication. Payne, who resigned. as chairman of the Lonsdale Quay Development Board to take the job with Pinecorp, : said Pinecorps, appearaiice at: an in-camera. council meeting was ‘‘to ask. them (the city) what their “Plans for the property were”. According to Payne the company would only be in- terested in the Park and Tilford property — if it was needed — if it. remained zoned industrial and was not rezoned, as has been re- quested, to commercial, which would increase the value of the land. The.request for rezoning of the property comes from Daon and Brodel Develop- ments, who have agreed to purchase the Park ‘and ‘Tilford and retain the public gardens as u free. public at- traction if the city will rezone the property to commercial and allow the development of a. shopping . centre.
